Frequently Asked Questions – Local Roots

Do I need a medical card to shop at Local Roots?
Nope! All Local Roots locations offer recreational marijuana and are open to the public, 21 & over with a Valid ID.

How does Local Roots obtain it’s cannabis?
In accordance with state law, we do not grow our own cannabis and/or produce any cannabis products. Instead, Local Roots works closely with numerous farms and producers across Washington to bring you a wide range of high-quality cannabis products. Steps are taken to ensure that all product coming through our stores is safe, legal, and, of course, something we would enjoy ourselves.  Every product offered at Local Roots has been tried by someone in the company to ensure quality before being sold.

Can I purchase cannabis seeds or clones or plants?
Currently, no. Local Roots stores only carry and sell closed and sealed cannabis products in accordance with WA State law.

Cannabis is an annual flowering plant in the Cannabis genus. Humans have harvested it throughout time for industrial fiber, oil, recreation, spiritual pursuits, and as medicine. Cannabis is categorized into two types for consumption: Cannabis Sativa and Cannabis Indica. These plants contain cannabinoids, which are the active ingredients in cannabis. The most commonly known cannabinoids are THC, CBD, and CBN.

How do I determine the proper dosage?
Edible forms of cannabis are measured into milligrams (mg). For people with a low tolerance, a recommended starting dose is 5-10mg. Other forms of cannabis (flower, joints, concentrates like wax, shatter, etc.) are sold by the half-gram(0.5 g), full (1 g) gram, an eighth (3.5 g), a quarter (7 g), half-ounce (14 g) and full ounces (28 g). Due to personal body chemistry and individual tolerance levels, other forms of cannabis intake (smoking, vaporizing, dabbing, etc.) will vary considerably from person to person. Please feel free to ask your budtender any questions you might have about marijuana dosage!

Your products have percentages of THC/THCA/CBD listed. Why is that and should I care about it?
In accordance with WA State Law, all farms and producers are required to responsibly tests their cannabis for levels of cannabinoids such as THC and CBD called a potency analysis. At this point, the product(s) are also treated to a microbiology and foreign matter screening to gain quality assurance ratings. Only “Class A” ratings are allowed to be sold for any cannabis product in accordance with state law. Potency analysis test results are listed daily on our menus and can always be found on the product packaging. Microbiology and foreign matter test results are available upon request.

“THC” refers to the amount of THC in the trichome crystals on the outside of the plant. “CBD” , likewise. The “A” sometimes listed with these percentages refers to the “Active” amount or the actual amount received by the individual during the act of burning and inhalation. At this point, lab analysis varies between labs and there is no state oversight of the labs yet, thus these percentages (especially on flower) don’t often reflect the strength or effects of the corresponding high.

A Thorough Guide To Choosing The Right Marijuana (Part 1)

We’re almost two years into the world of legal cannabis and the world of marijuana is still just as confusing as ever. There are an endless amount of products and strains, plus, how many shops can they really pack into Seattle?

When you visit a legal shop, we recommend selecting one of our partners. All recreational weed retailers have many products on the shelves and oftentimes the number of options overwhelms new cannabis users. Smoking, vaping, pills, and eating or drinking infused products are just a few of the popularized consumption methods in Washington state.

Regardless of how you consume cannabis, there are three industry terms (popularized by Leafly.com) that many people use to identify each type. Sativa (S), Indica (I), and Hybrid (H). In order to choose the marijuana experience that is best suited for you, it’s important to understand each classification and try to remember the flavors that you enjoy.

Each of the different types of cannabis are known to produce specific effects depending on the strain. Some can give you bursts of creative energy, induce anxiety, or help with focus, while others can relax you, sedate you, or aid with appetite loss.

Now that we know about the different types and kinds of effects, it is important the user asks themselves how they want to feel after having consumed the marijuana. One of the best ways someone can identify a product that is right for them is by them communicating their needs or wants with the shop’s staff.

Choosing The Right Marijuana: Terpenes

A good place to start is by asking yourself if you want energy or if you want to feel sleepy. The next question could maybe be about the fact you need help managing anxiety or finding a way to increase your appetite. Depending on what you want to do, a really good budtender can almost always find something that has been known to help. A good example is that many people don’t actually enjoy smoking. Communicating a desire to stay away from smoking is actually very helpful and I always suggest taking the time to focus on the creation of a strong relationship with your budtender. That way they can take care of you. Once your relationship with them is strong and your budtender can begin to identify what kind of high you’re looking to experience, they can dial in the right terpenes and flavor profiles to have you flying high all day and night. This little extra knowledge could help you to consistently smoke better or to even teach others how to use marijuana in an effective way.

Choosing The Right Marijuana: Edibles (Myths)

America has an endless supply of potent cannabis flower, delicious infused candies, cookies, chocolates, and beverages, and at this point, we all know that finding something tasty isn’t that difficult. Sharing stories with your budtender about what products you’ve tried and whether or not they were good or bad, is a huge part of the learning process with cannabis. For those of you who haven’t tried a cannabis-infused edible or drink, we recommend you visit one of our reputable retail partners and letting the staff know it’s your first time. Tell them the GreenRush team sent you their way!

A Real Review Of Blue Rush OG From GreenRush

Blue Rush OG is a GreenRush staple. A short and squatty version of Blue Dream, Blue Rush OG brings together Blue Dream with Pineapple OG. This terp sauce isn’t sauce at all, it’s more like crumbly wax that shines brightly in the light. Maybe it’s supposed to say terp sugar? These waxy crystals aren’t that sticky, which can make them more tricky to work on your dab tool. A scoop will be the best-shaped tool to get the job done easily.

The Blue Rush OG doesn’t have much of a smell. Light floral with an occasional berry note. However, the flavor will slap you in the mouth. Berries and pineapples overwhelmed my pallet as I exhaled a cloud of smoke. Taking a second dab to confirm and that flavor was front and center once again. It’s interesting that this wax has such little aroma, but a powerful flavor.

This strain is a definite mood enhancer. Even after a long day, a couple dabs of the Blue Rush OG calmed me down and put my mindset in a better place so I could squeeze out a few more hours of work. I recommend using this strain before going out for the night. It’s bound to enhance any concert, comedy show, or anything else you’re attending, especially if you’re going out for Memorial Day weekend, whether that be out drinking, boating, whatever.

Price Check: GreenRush & Kush Klub

Depending on which store you visit and what city or area it’s located in, ‘top-shelf’ cannabis will often consistently feature the same 10-20 brands. Many of these companies have been featured as one of Dope Magazine’s “Best” for a specific product or category. Some of the best cannabis companies in Washington include Oleum Extracts, Refine & X-tracted, Gold Leaf, Treehawk Farms, and House of Cultivar.

Oleum’s Sugar Resin is $35 at Kush Klub – Shoreline while their Honey Crystal is $50. These products are 100% worth experiencing and oftentimes we love to mix our GR concentrates with Oleum’s Extracts. Both of our companies are producing THC-A ‘diamonds’, mixing them with terpene sauce and even offering them by themselves sometimes.

If you’re considering buying multiple grams, our concentrates at Kush Klub are both $30 per gram for shatter and terp sauce. (At the time of writing this article.) They also carry our flower products. Producing high-quality flower is something we take great pride in. Although just one small dab keeps people happy for hours, smoking a gram of our flower maintains the vibe, culture, and community of cannabis.

GreenRush Strains For Cinco De Mayo

For dabbers, we have all kinds of concentrates including Lemon Skunk, Pink Lemonade, Royal Locktite, Professor Chaos, Orange McFly, Orange Diesel, Purple Cat Piss, and Golden Panda. You can also find Kimbo Kush, Purps Mix, and a few other strains out on the market currently.

GreenRush’s Pick The NFL’s Best Defensive Players Of 2017

To get ready for the Championship Sunday, check out GreenRush’s player awards for the 2017 season. With the leagues, best three defenses remaining of the final four teams, take a look at the best defensive players for the season.

GreenRush strains to enjoy while you’re reading: Big City Lights, Blue Rush OG, and Professor Chaos

Inside Linebackers

Bobby Wagner, Sean Lee, Luke Kuechly

Bobby Wagner once again leads the Seahawks in tackles. He carried an injury-plagued unit in 2017 and still managed to make plays week in and week out.

Sean Lee makes the Cowboys defense go. The entire unit played differently when missed time due to injury. He elevates everyone around him to overachieve.

Luke Kuechy plays all over the field in Carolina. Widely recognized as the leagues best middle linebacker in the league. His skills in coverage don’t get talked about enough.

Outside Linebackers

Joey Bosa, Ryan Kerrigan, Chandler Jones, Terrell Suggs

Joey Bosa nabbed 12.5 sacks in just his second season in the league. He’s one of the few players that starts making an impact the second he stepped on the field.

Ryan Kerrigan nabbed 13 sacks on an underachieving Redskins team. He was a half sack short of his career high in 2017.

Terrell Suggs is another super veteran that refuses to bend a knee to father time. He crossed the ten sack mark for the seventh time in his career and his defense was once again one of the best in the league.

Chandler Jones was the 2017 sack leader. The Cardinals couldn’t put it together in 2017 after a string of injuries hamstrung their season, but it’s always fun to watch Jones chase helpless quarterbacks around the field.

Defensive Tackles

Kawaan Short, Aaron Donald, Calais Campbell, Cam Jordan

Kawann Short had 7.5 sacks this season with two forced fumbles. He’s a stalwart in the Panthers front seven and will be for years to come after signing a five-year contract.

Aaron Donald is in the running for the most dominant player in all of football. Getting 11 sacks from the defensive tackle position and living in the offensive backfield all season long.

Calais Campbell was a long time Cardinal before taking a chance on an upstart Jaguars team. That chance paid off with one of the best seasons in his long career. 14.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and a touchdown. His veteran presence made that defense a force to be reckoned with during the 2017 season.

Cam Jordan has always been producing at a high level, but it wasn’t until the last couple seasons he’s gotten the attention he deserves. A career-high 13 sacks and a whopping 11 defended passes in 2017 helped the Saints find the post season for the first time in five seasons.

Cornerbacks (Including Slot)

Marshon Lattimore, Xavier Rhodes, AJ Bouye & Jalen Ramsey, Lamarcus Joyner, Patrick Robinson, Chris Harris Jr

Marshon Lattimore is a rookie cornerback, arguably the hardest job in the NFL. Lattimore played like a 5-year veteran, scoring five interceptions and shutting down professional route runners.

Xavier Rhodes should be called “set it and forget it.” You just put him in any corner and forget that dude even exists. He might get 30 yards. He’s big, extremely physical at the line of scrimmage, jamming receivers off their route and out of their minds.

Jalen Ramsey and AJ Bouye are hands down the best duo in the NFL. 10 interceptions between the duo and a bevy of frustrated offensive coordinators put these two at the head of any cornerback list.

Lamarcus Joyner has to cover receivers like Doug Baldwin and Larry Fitzgerald out of the slot. He holds his own with the all-pros and nabbed three interceptions this season.

Patrick Robinson was one of Pro Football Focuses highest rated corners inside or out. He had a slow start to his career in New Orleans, but has found his place out of the slot in Philadelphia,

Chris Harris Jr. is one of the few cornerbacks in the league that plays inside and out. He can line up anywhere and be effective. This makes him invaluable schematically and a nightmare to plan for.

 Safeties

Harrison Smith, Kevin Byard, Eric Weddle

Harrison Smith ranges the backfield of the best defense in all the land. The Vikings shut down damn near every team this season, a big part of that was Smith keeping the big plays at bay. He was Pro Football Focuses highest rated safety EVER. He rivals Aaron Donald, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Todd Gurley and the like as the most dominant player in football.

Kevin Byard is the league’s leader in interceptions. A pure ball hawk for the Tennessee Titans, Byard scored five of his picks in just two games. He had one hell of an off-season seeing as he had no interceptions his rookie year.

Eric Weddle is a center piece for the Baltimore Ravens secondary. His long white beard sticks through his helmet have he smashes running backs in the box and knock receivers off their feet in the open field. Weddle got a sack and six interceptions in 2017.

Defensive Ends

Damarcus Lawrence, Everson Griffin, Cameron Heyward, Julius Peppers

Damarcus Lawrence came alive in his fourth year in the league. After only nine sacks in his first three seasons, he put the quarterback down 14.5 times in 2017.  He was part of a Dallas front seven that surprised a lot of people by the end of the season.

Everson Griffin came into his prime during his eighth season, compiling 13 sacks for a career high. He helped bring an NFC North championship to Minnesota.

Julius Peppers is an old man by professional athlete standards. In his 17th season, he’s still producing at an elite level, crossing the 1o sack mark for the tenth time in his career.

Cameron Heyward was the sack leader for the Pittsburgh Steelers this season. Pittsburgh is known for its linebackers like Ryan Shazier, but their line is full of monsters as well.

The Cannabis Industry Is Striving For Increased Diversity

recent report on cannabis industry diversity was released by New Frontier Data with help from the women activist group  Women Grow. The report surveyed 1700 people. On gender diversity, the report concluded that women have 57 percent majority ownership and 30 percent have complete ownership. These numbers are meaningful and show a huge push towards gender equality within the cannabis industry, according to Green Rush Daily.

Bethany Rondeau is one of these women, she owns and operates Falcanna. Falcanna started as a craft medical cannabis farm and became a tier-three farm, the largest type of cannabis producer in the state. Rondeau doesn’t want her success to be tied to the fact that’s she’s a woman, but thinks it’s great women get to shine in the industry.

“That’s not what I hang my hat on,” Rondeau says.

New Frontier Data’s report concluded racial diversity is something that needs to be balanced. Only one percent of over 3000 owned cannabis dispensaries are owned by black people, according to a 2016 BuzzFeed report. A problem with a majority white-owned cannabis industry is white people are the least likely to suffer from the legal ramifications that surround cannabis.

Pot prohibition started in the 1930’s when Harry Anslinger used misplaced tribalism and racist attitudes dealing with Mexican immigration to fuel anti-cannabis rhetoric. Today, black and Hispanic men are three times as likely to be arrested for pot-related reasons even though pot use is relatively similar between white and black people. Solutions for the cannabis industries’ diversity imbalance are being experimented with in Oakland, California, Rolling Stone reports.

Oakland is rolling out an Equity Permit Program that prioritizes medical marijuana licenses go to communities that have been disproportionately damaged by the war on drugs. To qualify for the program you must have a marijuana-related conviction on your record or have lived in areas that have experienced a disproportionate amount of law enforcement attention. NORML reports. The goal of this program is to knock down barriers keeping minorities from gaining entry into the cannabis industry. These barriers include policy, funding, and education, Jesce Horton told Rolling Stone. Horton founded the Minority Cannabis Business Association.

One example of how the Equity Permit Program will bound these hurdles is through a business incubator to provide applicants with the capital and space needed to launch a cannabis dispensary. Bank won’t deal with cannabis because it’s still federally illegal, so business loans are out of the question. Grassroots movements like the Hood Incubator are aimed at helping usher in new black owners into the cannabis industry as well. It’s basically a finance and business boot camp, designed to give people all the fundamentals, acumen and capital needed to start and run a successful business, Rolling Stone reports. The Equity Permit Program is the first of its kind, but it’s not without its criticisms. There will only be eight licenses handed out in the first year, four of which have to be given to Equity Permit applicants.

That number is too small to let the industry grow properly, Horton says. Oakland’s medical marijuana officials know the program isn’t perfect. All they can do is focus on each problem as it arises and takes solace in the fact they’re allowing scorned cannabis users to step out of the shadows with the rest of the industry.
