Big City Lights Strain Spotlight

Big City Lights is a specialty strain designed by NorStar Genetics. The genetic profile is complex and provides a unique experience when smoking it. Big City Lights is a “large yield purple OG in seed form,” according to Blake Brush, Lead Grower for Green Rush Cannabis. Green Rush is a small farm located in Snohomish Valley, they produce small, but sophisticated crops with unique strains. Big City Lights is one of those strains.

Big City Lights’ mother is Dark Desire and its father is Frisco OG.

Dark Desire’s purple color characteristics are dominant traits and consistently passes on its purple flowers to the offspring, according to NorStar Genetics. Dark Desire was the result of Gooey Breeder’s attempt at making a purple strain with extremely dominant characteristics.

Frisco OG another NorStar exclusive and is the offspring of Hell’s Angel’s OG Kush and DeadHead Kush. This is a Sativa-dominant hybrid with a strong citrus and pine terpene profile and carries the pain reliving effects like an Indica, per NorStar Genetics.

Green Rush started with 40 phenotypes of the Big City Lights strain before slimming it down to the final two phenotypes used to breed the final variation.

The first phenotype was a “deep dark, purple yielder,” as Brush described it. The smells are reminiscent of the grape scented markers we used to have as kids. The smell is almost artificial. The grape really comes through, so much so you almost taste it, Brush exclaimed.  Brush described the high from this plant as the feel of an OG with the thump of a strong Indica. You get that stoned feeling in your face, but it never travels to your body. You can stay functioning and productive throughout the day.

The second phenotype had little of the deep purple color as phenotype one, but the high that came with it was too good to pass up. Dubbed “comatose,” Brush said with a smirk on his face. The phenotype was “uniquely strong,” and reminded Brush of a pure Trainwreck high, or the closest feeling to one’s he’s experienced in the last decade.

Over one-third of this line became hermaphrodites, which means the female plants that alone will produce big beautiful buds, started growing male parts which produce pollen and seeds for reproduction, not smoke-able flower. “Hermies” plants can start a chain reaction that can ruin a crop.

“There were some that remained stable, making the [pheno] hunt well worth it in the end,” Brush wrote on an Instagram post detailing Big City Lights.

The resulting high of these phenotypes is supposed to give you the Sativa OG feels behind a strong Indica kick. It will have pain relieving effects while allowing you to stay productive and motivated throughout the day. This strain sounds perfect for post workout recovery. You can relieve your sore joints and muscles while allowing you to stay focused and knock out the rest of your to-do list.

Big City Lights is “has terps to match her color, just oozing berry goodness,” Brush exclaimed.
