What Is A Vaporizer? #CatchTheRush

What Is A Vaporizer?

The idea behind vaporizers is to ignite cannabis using a heating coil instead of an open flame. A vape pen is exactly what it sounds like, a pen-shaped device that contains a rechargeable battery and heating element.

It didn’t take long for the convenience and discrete aspects of e-cigarettes to be adapted for cannabis concentrates, and it’s quickly becoming a normal way to consume cannabis. If you’re looking to get a vape pen and see what the rage is all about, here is a quick start guide for new users.

There are three kinds of vape pens you can get:

Thereare pens designed for vape cartridges. You buy the battery unit separately and the cartridges are screwed on like the lid of a beverage. The battery is recharged and reused and the cartridges are easily switched out if you want to smoke something specific in the morning and something during the night.

Second, are units designed to manually load your own cannabis or concentrate on a per hit basis. These are more advanced and left for someone who is familiar with dabbing.

Third, is a fully disposable unit with everything included. The battery, heating element and oil are all self-contained in the device and can be disposed of when it’s empty. This is the easiest entry point for vaporizing and doesn’t take much explanation. Just open the package, suck on the mouthpiece and enjoy the experience.

How To Select A Battery

If you want to avoid the full disposable unit, I suggest purchasing a push button battery. Optimum and Vuber make ok devices. The device pictured above has three different heat settings, depending on the amount of oil you want to inhale per hit or the type of cartridge you have. It has an LED light that lets you know when the battery is fully charged or dead. You can turn the device off with five quick clicks of the button. This saves power and keeps them from activating within your pocket or purse.

These usually run between $15 and $20 and can be found at most recreational shops. Find a budtender you trust and ask them for recommendations.

How To Select And Use A Cartridge

This decision can be more difficult to make because of the sheer amount of options you have. Type of concentrate, brand, and price are just a few of the options you must weigh before making a decision.

Please take into consideration that price points can be different from shop to shop, but price points for a quality half gram cartridges range from $40 to $60, usually. That seems expensive, but cartridges will last upwards of two weeks for the average user.

Using a cartridge is easy. Just line up the threads and screw it on top of the pen. Set your temperature on the battery, and push and hold the button to inhale. The LED light will light up, letting you know it’s heating and will disable automatically after each hit or after you let go of the button.

Setting the temperature is important for the vaping experience you’re looking for. The lowest temperature is designed to be as discrete as possible, uses the least amount of oil per hit and allows the strain’s taste and flavor to shine through. This setting is best for rookie vapers or smokers.

The middle setting will allow you larger hits, but you use a bit more oil and get less flavor.

The highest setting is designed for veterans who are looking to blow fat clouds and get stoned to the bone. This setting will sour the taste, use more oil, but you’re getting the largest hits possible from a vape pen.

Each setting has positives and negatives depending on your desired experience. I suggest trying them all out in every situation to see which combination best suits you.

Learn About Different Types Of Terpenes

Terpenes are hydrocarbons seen in the oils of plants. While they are an important part of the cannabis plant, terpenes are also found in all fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Terpenes are responsible for providing flavors and also usually produce a highly potent natural aroma. While terpenes differ from one strain to another, there are a number of types that are consistently seen.

Beta-Caryophyllene

Beta-caryophyllene is a terpene that has the scent of sweet, woody, and spicy flavors. While this terpene found among various different strains, it is most commonly seen in topicals due to bonding closely with peripheral CB2 receptors. There are a fair number of medical benefits from this terpene as it has consistently shown to decrease inflammation and fight against anxiety and depression. One of the most interesting facts about beta-caryophyllene is that it reduces an individual’s craving for alcohol. While this terpene exists in many strains, the most popular can be found in OG Kush, Bubba Kush, and Chemdawg.

Humulene

Humulene is best known for helping cure cancer and reduce inflammation throughout the body. This terpene also decreases the appetite, which has a far different effect from a number of other terpenes. Studies have shown that humulene has effectively provided treatment for arthritis, bursitis, and fibromyalgia. Humulene is most frequently found in the sativa strain. Aside from cannabis, it can be described as having a beer scent as it’s also found in hops, cloves, and basil. Common strains that contain this terpene include White Widow and Headband.

Limonene

A few other common terpenes seen in cannabis includes limonene and pinene. Limonene contains a scent that is more citrus and lemon-based. It’s is a terpene that is considered to be more relaxing when it comes to effects.

Pinene

In contrast, the pinene terpene has a far different as it has a more natural earthly flavor. It can be described as having the taste and scent of pine needles. This terpene is known to have an uplifting and energetic effect that is seen in sativa strains.

Trans-Nerolidol

Compared to spicy and hop-based scents, the trans-nerolidol terpene takes on a far different aroma. It can be described as having a floral scent that incorporates influences of citrus and roses. This terpene’s medical impact isn’t as clear cut compared to humulene and beta-caryophyllene as there many tests still investigating the medical benefits. While the information is limited, it does have anti-fungal and antimicrobial attributes. Common strains that contain the trans-nerolidol terpene include Skywalker OG and Island Sweet Skunk.

If you’re a registered medical cannabis patient, the limits are three ounces of usable cannabis flower, forty-eight ounces of cannabis-infused edibles in solid form, two hundred sixteen ounces of cannabis drinkables, and twenty-one grams of cannabis concentrates, per the Washington State Department of Health.

The Cookies Family Showed Out For Berner At Showbox Market

Berner made a normal Tuesday night feel like 420 Friday night at the Showbox Market. The Big Pescado rolled into Seattle with all of his homies, The Exotikz and the Cookies for an early 420 celebration. Pulling up to the Showbox Market, a line of kids in Cookies merchandise wrapped around the corner. By the time we rolled up and smoked a blunt of Nigerian and White Tahoe Cookies to channel the spirit of The Big Pescado, the line had dispersed and we walked right through security and into the venue.

As soon as I grabbed a gin and tonic from the bar, the host Winston came on to introduce BadYoshi, a duo from Tacoma. Yodi Mac and Scribemecca only had five songs to get the crowd warmed up. They performed hits “Bag It Up,” “40,025” and several songs from their debut self-titled EP. Their stage presence was high energy and the set was dope, but it was easy to see this crowd was here for Berner and Berner alone. Their energy never bled into the crowd like at previous BadYoshi performances I’ve witnessed.

Anonymous The Dude and The Cookies Boys from Berner’s entourage performed as people slowly filled in. Some of their performances were low energy and the security was cracking down hard on anybody smoking. Berner thanked the Showbox Market for letting the audience smoke with the artists; which only happened for a small portion of the night from my vantage point. They were confiscating weed, putting it out, and escorting people towards the exit. This contributed to a scattered and weird feeling in the crowd, but everything turned around as soon as Berner’s entourage introduced him and brought him on stage.

The dance floor filled out quickly and smoke plumes sprouted up like California wildfires after a drought. The combination of a packed out dance floor with the sheer volume of people smoking, made it almost impossible for security to hamper stoner efforts like previously in the evening. I even got in on the action midway through the show.  I switched spots in the crowd after some amped up meat-head was trying way too hard to get us to “his level.”  After I moved to the left side of the stage, I was handed half of a joint, which I finished quickly to avoid the security flashlight beam meandering my way through the fog of stoned.

Berner played all the hits from The Big Pescado like “Greed,” “Noid,” and “Wait For It.” He rocked plenty of fan favorites from previous projects like “20 Joints,” “Wax Room,” “Xanax and Patron,” and many others. In between songs Bern would toss bags of Exotikz Lemonade into the crowd. Berner is effortless on stage, he doesn’t have to move much because his flow and music really speak for themselves. The sound was on point all night and Berner’s flow was effortless. As everyone in the room smoked more cannabis, the crowd became more united around Berner’s smooth, enigmatic presence.

Seattle was a movie 🎥 #thebigpescadotour ! 4/20 next !

A post shared by Berner (@berner415) on

By the end of the night, there wasn’t a hint of weirdness in the room and the energy had completely turned around. Berner performed to a packed and gracious house. He thanked the fans at the end of the show for supporting him through a fully independent music career.

Dab This Eat That: Benjarong Thai Restaurant In Monroe, WA

The Pacific Northwest is home to many different cultures and cuisines. Most recently and thanks to social media, Seattle and Washington has become known for “teryaki.” This sweet and tangy chicken, rice, and salad dish has become a staple in just about every city.

This type of food, albeit entirely different from many others served at notable restaurants, has overshadowed other cuisines that bring an elevated experience to the region. One example is Benjarong Thai in Monroe, a city located a little more than an hour away from downtown Seattle.

When you ask people what the best food is around Marysville, Monroe, Mount Vernon, and even Everett, Benjarong Thai is frequently mentioned. Known for having a wonderful menu, this Thai restaurant offers lunch combinations, noodle dishes, entrees, curries, rice dishes, and a full dinner menu with appetizers.
